  In this war cemetery, Ottoman soldiers who fell during WW1 are buried. For many centuries, modern day Iraq was under Ottoman rule until WW1. In 1914, British troops starting from Basrah conquered all modern day Iraq, including the region around Mosul and Baghdad, even though Ottoman troops, despite being on the eve of collapsing statehood after almost six centuries, gave the British troops a tough fight and fought bravely. May they all rest in peace. Also the tomb of some called GENÇ OSMAN lies in this cemetery. It is said, that he came with Sultan Murat IV to conquer Baghdad from Iranian troops in the 17th century and fell there while fighting heroically.

  The Ottoman Martyrs Cemetery, which is the correct name, is where martyrs of various nationalities lie, including Turks, Kurds, Arabs and others, who were martyred while repelling the British occupation forces in World War I. Most of those laid to rest in this cemetery are wounded, as it is located. The cemetery is near the Majidiya Hospital in the Ottoman era. It was part of the Bab al-Muadham cemetery. It was later cut off and separated from it, and its management was given to the government. In 1937 AD, the Turkish army transported the body of the martyr Othman, may God have mercy on him, the flag bearer at the conquest of Baghdad by Sultan Murad IV, may God have mercy on him, to this cemetery in 1952 AD, and built a beautiful and simple dome over his tomb. The cemetery had a door (other than the one that exists now) and next to it was a water fountain whose reward was given to the martyrs. Pictures of it are listed below. However, the door was closed and its location was changed. As for the water fountain, it was canceled during the reconstruction campaigns that took place later. The cemetery is well cared for, and is constantly monitored by the Turkish government. May God have mercy on its inhabitants and make Paradise their abode.
